I'm an EPt

Build Career Success and Make an Impact with the Environmental Professional in-training Designation

The Environmental Professional-in-Training designation is for professionals who do not yet have the work experience required to qualify as an EP.
As an EPt, you can work towards your unique environmental expertise with tools and resources to get you to the next level.

We award EPt Certification to environmental professionals who meet the following requirements:

Education

Must have a recognized Canadian college diploma or University degree, or equivalent international credentials.

Environmental Specialization Knowledge

Track your progress by completing your National Occupational Standards (NOS) assessment. This will help you determine areas of strength and weakness so you can work on improving your environmental competencies to meet the full EP standards.

Ethics

Demonstrate professional integrity by agreeing to and being held accountable to the EP Code of Ethics

Professional Development

Remain current by completing and submitting annual professional development requirements

Environmental Specializations

All applicants applying for an EPt designation may select up to two areas of specialization.  Each specialization is related to four core areas:

  • Environmental Management
  • Environmental Protection

Application Process

The Canadian Environmental Certification Approvals Board (CECAB) is responsible for overseeing the administration, evaluation and ratification of ECO Canada’s certification of EPts in Canada. While ECO Canada acts as the certifying body for EP Certification, the Board, composed of key environmental stakeholders from across Canada, functions as a safeguard on impartiality for the certification and re-certification of applicants and members.
