Environmental Professionals – EP

Protecting and Restoring the Quality of our Environment


Environmental Professional certification (EP) is the only designation of its kind in Canada to provide professionals with formal recognition of their unique environmental competencies, while demonstrating to employers their commitment to accountability, career development, and continued learning. EP certification is available exclusively to experienced professionals who have five or more years of relevant environmental work experience, and who meet or exceed the criteria set out in the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for environmental employment. The NOS are a comprehensive list of skill statements that describe the competencies required for environmental work in Canada.


Environmental Auditors – EP(CEA) & EP(EMSLA)

Providing Assurance for our Environment


ECO Canada offers two EP specializations for auditing professionals that add value and recognition to a professional’s environmental auditing experience/expertise.

  • Compliance Environmental Auditing - EP(CEA)
  • Environmental Management Systems Lead Auditor - EP(EMSLA)
    • with further fields of specialization in Environmental Management Systems and Sustainable Forestry Management


GHG Professionals – EP(GHG)

Addressing Climate Change


Environmental Professional – Greenhouse Gas Reporting – Certification is relevant to invididuals in this area of work who quantify, assess and report emissions and emissions reductions that result from the activities of organizations, entities, facilities or individual GHG emissions reduction projects. They may also act as the independent party that evaluates how a GHG inventory has been established and/or reported against program criteria and/or a specific protocol that states expectations of greenhouse gas accounting principles.

Within this area, professionals can be certified in the following specializations:

  • Quantification - Inventory Quantification
  • Quantification - Project Quantification
  • Verification - Quantification Expert
  • Verification - Auditing Expert
  • Verification - Team Lead


Environmental Professionals in Training- EPt

The Environmental Professional in Training program provides an opportunity for emerging professionals to focus on career development and also to build success in the environmental field. This option is available to recent college or university graduates, newcomers to Canada and those individuals who have less than five years of Canadian environmental work experience. It provides an opportunity for career mapping and development through the understanding of necessary competencies while demonstrating a desire for continuous growth. 
 

 

Environmental Professionals in Training (GHG) - EPt(GHG)

The Environmental Professional in Training- Greenhouse Gas Reporting designation, EPt(GHG) is available to professionals with less than five years of experience who have completed post-secondary education and specific GHG training, and are working, or would like to work in the field of GHG reporting.  It provides an opportunity for career mapping and development through the understanding of necessary competencies while demonstrating a desire for continuous growth.   

 

 

Professional Meteorologists – P. Met


Providing Protection from the Environment


The Professional Meteorologist Certification is relevant for those involved in the field of meteorology at a specialized or conceptual level and who are engaged in, or managing, the research of atmospheric phenomena; the development and application of models, templates and algorithms for weather forecasting; the collection, analysis and diagnosis of meteorological data; the training of other meteorologists; or the provision of advice, forecasts, risk estimates, impact estimates, interpretation for the protection of life and property, the advancement of the economy, the protection of the environment, or the enhancement of the quality of life.

 

A Professional Meteorologist can be certified in the following areas of specialization:
