Prove That You Set the Standards for Auditing

We award EP Auditor designations to individuals who meet high standards of expertise in environmental auditing:

1. Must meet the EP certification requirements:

  • Education (Must have recognized diploma or degree)
  • Employment History (Minimum five years of relevant experience)
  • Environmental Specialization Knowledge (Meet assessment standards)
  • Core Competencies (Validated skills and knowledge by reputable peers)
  • Demonstrate professional integrity as they are accountable to the EP Code of Ethics

2. Must have at least 35 hours of formal training in:

  • Environmental Management Systems & Audit Standards
  • Environmental Science & Technology
  • The Technical & Environmental Aspects of Business and Facility Operations
  • Relevant Environmental Laws, Regulations, And Associated Documentation Best Practices
  • The Procedures, Processes, Techniques, And Guidelines for Different Types Of Environmental Audits

Two Options of Auditor Designation

EP(CEA): Compliance Auditor

You work with national and international auditing standards and focus on CSA Z773 or ISO 19011

EP(EMSLA): Environmental Management Systems Lead Auditor

You specialize in one or both the following areas:

  • Environmental Management Systems (EMS): audit organizations against the ISO 14001 standard and expertise to lead an EMS audit team or conduct audits
  • Sustainable Forestry Management (SFM): audit organizations against SFM standards like FSC, SFI, or CSA Z809 with skills and experience to lead an SFM audit team or conduct audits

What to Expect When You Apply

  • 1. Pay the application and exam fee ($450)

  • 2. Access your Auditor application profile

  • 3. Submit your education, work experience, and auditing practice information

  • 4. Await registrar approval

  • 5. Write the Auditor exam online

  • 6. Receive peer evaluation from a trusted auditing expert

  • 7. Await final approval from CECAB

  • 8. Pay the membership fee ($200) and receive certificate
