ECO Canada was established in 1992 as part of Canada's sector council initiative. With a solid reputation in the field of human resource management, ECO Canada's services reach all participants of the environmental sectors including employers, practitioners, educators, and students.

The activities undertaken by ECO Canada in support of the environmental profession include the following:

    Career Information

ECO Canada offers multimedia career-planning tools directed such as profiles of environmental professionals, a career-matching tool, and a video library. These tools have been customized to meet the needs of students, mid-career practitioners, and those who are seeking to explore career options within the environmental profession.

The ECO Job Board is Canada's largest environmental job board.  With over a thousand environmental jobs posted every year, from across the country it is the online hub of green career opportunities.  Find jobs in environmental engineering, conservation, biology, geology, energy, health and safety, water treatment and more.  Other environmental career tools found on the ECO Job Board include a resume database and profiles of featured environmental employers.

Job seekers from across the country can create a customized online resume through ECO Canada, which then enables them to search for job postings that match their specific interests, skills and experience. Conversely, employers are able to search the online resume database to locate practitioners with the skills and experience they require.

For those looking to gain experience in the environmental profession, ECO Canada internships help recent graduates make the transition from post-secondary institutions to the workforce. Our subsidized work experience program focuses on providing continued employment for graduates after the contract term has finished.

The ECO Canada internship program also offers employers the opportunity to hire young professionals with the aid of a wage subsidy. The wage subsidy helps to reduce the risk associated with training by covering approximately one third of a young professional's wages during their first year of employment.

ECO Canada’s professional development centre provides practitioners with access to an on-line database of environmental competencies and essential skills courses. Course information is accessible to practitioners through a detailed search tool that allows users to create a customized search based on date, location, course type or duration.

ECO Canada offers employers a set of retention and recruitment strategies to assist in the development of human resource practices. Using these services, employers are able to create and manage an on-line record of occupational profiles, professional development activities, and performance evaluations for each of their employees.

The Canadian Certified Environmental Practitioner (CCEP) designation is Canada's national environmental certification for practitioners who have five or more years of environmental work experience. The voluntary, competency based certification program provides practitioners with formal documentation of their environmental skills and experience.

The Canadian Environmental Practitioner-in-Training (CEPIT) program allows practitioners who have less than five years experience to document their environmental competencies and identify key skills that they will need to develop in order to become a member of Canada's national certification for environmental practitioners. CEPIT is a stepping-stone toward establishing credibility as a Canadian Certified Environmental Practitioner (CCEP).
