Students are chosen based on the reference letter and essay they submit about their environmental accomplishments and ambitions.

The deadline for the Newalta Aboriginal Environmental Scholarship is May 14, 2012.

3. What are the qualifications for scholarship applicants?
To qualify for the Newalta Aboriginal Environmental Scholarship, applicants must:

Be a Canadian resident Aboriginal individual who is First Nation status or non-status, Métis, or Inuit

Be 30 years of age or younger, with a high school diploma

Have been accepted into an environment-related program at a Canadian post-secondary institution for the fall of 2012

Submit a 500-word essay about their environmental values, leadership, and vision

Your 500-word essay should express the following:

6. What do you look for in reference letters?
We are looking for an external source who can comment on your overall character and involvement in environmental activities. References must upload their letter to the ECO Canada website using the link provided in the email you send through your online scholarship application.
7. I don't get my official acceptance letter until after the scholarship deadline. What other documents can I provide as proof of enrolment?
A conditional acceptance letter, an admission confirmation email, or a confirmed class schedule are all acceptable proof of enrolment documents.
8. Do I need a minimum academic average to apply?
No, there is no minimum academic average required. Rather, we favour applicants who are involved in environmental activities within their communities, such as environmental clubs, projects and/or organizations, etc.
9. Can I mail in my application?
ECO Canada requires all applications to be submitted online.
