Here’s how it works:

GREEN High Schools Program

Step One: Establish a Team (and register your school)

Get together with your friends, classmates or eco club and start planning your project. Your team will need at least one teacher sponsor.

Once your team is formed, register your school by submitting an email to career.awareness@eco.ca with the teacher sponsor’s contact information.

Step Two: Create an Action Plan

Choose a project that applies to at least one of these three areas:

  • Enhancing the environment
  • Communicating about the environment
  • Demonstrating the sustainable use of resources

Your project can include one, two or all three categories, but every project must include a career component. We want to help you see how you can turn your passion into an environmental career. As you complete your project be sure to explore related post-secondary programs and career options―something that will help you plan for life after graduation.

Step Three: Execute & Document

Using your action plan as a guide, put your project into action and document your achievements along the way.

You will need to share your project with ECO Canada, so make sure it can be submitted online. Ideas include: photographs, a video, or a group essay. Be creative about how you choose to document your project and have fun!

Step Four: Evaluate
As a team, complete the evaluation form and get your teacher and a school administrator to sign off.

Evaluating your project gives you and your team an opportunity to look at the successes and challenges of your project, and more importantly to reflect on your achievements.

Step Five: Celebrate
Once you’ve completed your project, celebrate and share your accomplishments with family, friends, and your school.

Pilot Project

The GREEN High Schools program will launch as a pilot program in September 2011 to a limited number of schools. If you’d like to have your school be one of the first in the country to participate in the program during this pilot stage, please contact career.awareness@eco.ca.
