The meteorological profession is another in a long line of professions affected by the labour shortage in Canada. According to the latest Canadian labour market figures, a shortage of 3,195 trained meteorological professionals by 2010 is expected.
At a time when global warming is such a huge issue, a shortage of experts to report on its ramifications is a critical loss. As well, a very large number of companies are exceedingly dependant on weather forecasting, says Grant Trump, President and CEO of ECO Canada. For example, truckers need to know if there’s snow on the road and crane operators need to know how windy it is.
