ECO Canada announces winners of the 2009 Environmental Employer of the Year Awards
March 27, 2009 - Results from the 2009 ECO Canada Environmental Employer of the Year Awards have revealed how flat team-based business can create high employee moral.
The awards are distributed based on the results of a company employee satisfaction survey that is administered and analyzed by ECO Canada. A committee of HR professionals then evaluates both the organization’s HR practices and employee satisfaction results to determine a winner.
This year the winner in the small business category is EcoMetrix Incorporated, a specialized environmental consulting firm in Mississauga, Ontario that is employee-owned and operated.
In the large business category The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority prevailed. The organization is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in the Province of Ontario, Canada.
When employees working at the two top organizations were asked to describe the structure of their company, they outlined the following benefits: “I enjoy working in an office where if you have ideas, complaints or suggestions they are acknowledged regardless of your status within the company” says Michael Venhuis, an Environmental Geoscientist at EcoMetrix.
“Everyone is heard and opinions matter and different viewpoints are taken into consideration. I don’t think I could find a better place to work” says Sharon Viglianti, Human Resources/Payroll administrator at Upper Thames River Conservation Authority.
Viglianti states “People produce high quality and high volumes of work when they are valued, given flexibility, and are trusted by their employer.”
