High Quality Environmental Leaders form ECO Canada’s Board of Directors

 
Calgary, May 2009 – ECO Canada is pleased to announce the election of John D. Wiebe to its Board of Directors and the re-election of three Board members for an additional 3-year term.
 
Mr. Wiebe is currently President and CEO of the GLOBE Foundation, CEO of GLOBE Events Ltd., CEO of GLOBE Communications Ltd. and CEO of Sustainable Media Group (SMG) LLC. Until May of 2005 he was the President and CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and until April of 2007 he was Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Education Centers Network and Global Schools Inc. with operations throughout the Asia Pacific region and Latin America.
 
Along with his new found role within ECO Canada’s Board of Directors, Mr. Wiebe is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Centre for Sustainable Cities; the International Finance Centre; Tonbridge Power Corporation; West Mountain Capital Corporation and the Advisory Board of SS Lootah Canada Ltd a member of the SS Lootah Group in Dubai. He is also a member of the United Nations Finance Initiative’s Expert Group on Responsible Investment.
 
In the past, Mr. Wiebe was the Chair of the Vancouver Economic Development Commission, the Canadian Board of the Pacific Basin Economic Council as well as a member of the National Roundtable on the Environment & the Economy. He continues to serve as a member of the Pacific Council and the Pacific Basin Economic Council.
 
Mr. Wiebe received degrees from the University of Manitoba (BSc) and McGill University (PhD). He has been an Associate at the Banff School of Management, and the East West Center in Hawaii.

Mr. Bourque has been re-elected for another 3-year term along with: Ed Norrena, President, EDGE Environmental Consulting Inc. (Past Chair of the Board and Management Committee member); Faramarz Bogzaran, President & CEO, SLR Consulting (Canada) Ltd. (Management Committee member); and Jasmine Urisk, President, JTU Consulting Inc. (Management Committee member). In addition to being re-elected, ECO Canada would like to welcome Christine Cinnamon, Environmental Manager, TransCanada Corp. as a new Management Committee member.
 
Remaining on ECO Canada’s Board of Directors and as part of the Management Committee are Bob Gill, Sr. Environmental Specialist, Manitoba Hydro (Vice-Chair of the Board) and Jon Ogryzlo, Dean, Environment, Horticulture & Agribusiness Division, Niagara.
 
Grant Trump, President and CEO of ECO Canada, stated: “ECO Canada is pleased to have such high quality leaders who represent environmental employment across Canada working together on our Board of Directors. Their contributions will greatly assist in meeting our national goals during these turbulent economic times.”
 
ECO Canada’s nationally balanced Board of Directors consists of 18 members. The role of the board is to provide strategic and operational advice to ECO Canada in the development of national environmental labour market solutions. All members of ECO’s Board of Directors are elected to three-year terms.
