ECO Canada examines the evolution of environmental education

May 14, 2010 - The 2009 Post-Secondary Graduation Research Report is in its final stages. On June 15th 2010, information such as the rate of enrolment and graduation in environment-related college and university programs across Canada will be available for download off of ECO Canada’s website.

The report illustrates a connection between student career choices and the shift towards a greener economy. Some interesting facts include:

• Enrolment in both college and university environment-related programs is on the rise
• Enrolment and graduation in many traditional programs are declining while other new emerging areas are experiencing tremendous growth, for example:

o Declines seen in Water & Wastewater quality and treatment (-47% enrolment, -43% graduation for college programs)
o Increases in Land Use and Planning (1900% enrolment, 2000% graduation for university programs)

Reports such as this play a vital role in the development of the environmental sector. Through these studies ECO Canada is able to provide employers, the academic community, potential employees, and governments at all levels with current and accurate information to help guide initiatives and foster growth within the sector.

More information will be on our website soon. Bookmark the page www.eco.ca/publications and check back for the full report or email info@eco.ca to request that the report be delivered to your inbox once available.
