HR needs expected to increase in the environmental sector
April 5, 2011 – HR resources specific to the environmental sector are escalating as a result of increased spending. It’s anticipated that over the next few years the sector will experience an average annual growth of 4.7% to 7.7%, exceeding economic GDP, (2010 Canadian Environmental Sector Trends Report)
In response to this growth Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) Canada is launching the first compensation survey tool of its kind, designed to capture occupational salary data for over 60 environmental professions as well as in depth benefits, retirement and vacation analysis.
“Our members have told us that they want reliable metrics on the salaries and benefits of several critical positions within the environmental industry,” says Michael Kerford, VP of ECO Canada. “This new survey tool has been developed in direct response from ECO Canada’s industry members who express a desire to ensure their competitiveness in the marketplace through the employment of the best and brightest environmental professionals. “
While there are a number of factors to employee engagement, fair and competitive compensation will always be an important consideration and this information will provide an important backdrop to employer/employee discussions.
To manage the Employer demand for niche environmental occupational data ECO has partnered with compensation and research experts to engineer a robust tool that is highly beneficial for small and medium sized employers that are in need of national metrics on specialized occupations to make decisions and negotiate salaries, or for those who may not have the resources to purchase reports through third party consultants. In addition, larger organizations in the environmental sector, which are currently served by established compensation surveys, will also benefit from the niche reporting mechanisms that capture data from the wide range of environmental occupations that is continually evolving.
Another compelling feature of the compensation tool is that it will produce annual reports rather than one off surveys, allowing for a longer duration to make changes or updates resulting in a more accurate report for an industry in rapid growth.
The compensation centre is available at and is open to any environmental industry employers, including consultants, service providers, contractors, emitters, and government. The survey will be open until the end of September, with the final report will be available in November.
