About the Project

ECO Canada's Accreditation Program was developed to serve the needs of more than 400 environmentally related education programs in Canada.

The project developed under the guidance of the Canadian University Environmental Science Network (CUESN) and the Canadian College Environmental Network (CCEN) who requested an accreditation program be administered by ECO Canada for their environmental programs. Human Resources Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) funded the creation of this program.

Accreditation demonstrates to students, parents, educators and industry that environmental programs have met a national standard.

The ECO Canada Accreditation Program is expected to:

  • Establish a self-sustaining national standardized accreditation system for environmental post-secondary education.
  • Promote enrolment in accredited environmental programs.
  • Establish linkages between accredited program graduates and certification for environmental professionals.
  • Promote national mobility and communication between post-secondary educational institutions.

How to get involved

Are you interested in participating in accreditation site visits as part of the “site visit evaluation team"?

The visit to each educational institution that has applied to have its program accredited is an integral part of the accreditation process. These on-site evaluations will be carried out by a team of volunteers who will make up the “site evaluation team”.  Site visit evaluation team members function as supportive consultants as well as analytical evaluators. Their objective is to produce a site visit evaluation report that will be complete, accurate, concise, and useful to the environmental program and to the Canadian Environmental Accreditation Commission’s (CEAC) decision-making process.
