Here’s how it works:
Step One: Establish a Team & Register Your School
The size and make-up of teams will vary depending on the requirements of each school. Some teams may be classroom-based, while others will be organized as an extracurricular club.
Although each team will require one teacher sponsor, they are encouraged to involve as many student and teacher participants as possible.
Once a team is formed, register your school by submitting an email to career.awareness@eco.ca with the teacher sponsor’s contact information.
Step Two: Create an Action Plan
Download ECO Canada’s Action Plan template to help guide your students through the planning and implementation process.
Students will need to choose a project that encompasses at least one of three areas:
-
Enhancing the environment
-
Communicating about the environment
-
Demonstrating the sustainable use of resources
Every project must to include a career component.
Step Three: Execute & Document
Using the action plan as a guide, students will implement their project and document their achievements. Students can be creative in how they choose to document their project as long as it can be submitted online to career.awareness@eco.ca. Ideas include: photographs, video, or group essay.
Step Four: Evaluate
As a team, students will be asked to evaluate the success of their project by completing an evaluation form. Once this form is completed, sign-off will be required from the teacher sponsor and a school administrator.
Step Five: Celebrate
After reflecting on the success of the project, students are encouraged to celebrate and share their achievements.
Pilot Program
The GREEN High Schools Program will launch as a pilot program in September 2011 to a limited number of schools. If your school would like to be one of the first in the country to participate in the program during this pilot stage, please contact career.awareness@eco.ca.
