Jumpstart your Canadian Environmental Career
Now that you’ve entered into Canada, it’s time to put your valuable skills to use in the Canadian workplace. There are differences in the way Canadians seek employment, as well as the Canadian workplace culture and environmental sector. To provide you with the job-search skills and environmental workplace knowledge you need to transition into the Canadian workforce, ECO Canada has created the Environmental Immigrant Bridging (EIB) Program. This program is offered by Immigrant Serving Agencies across Canada to provide internationally trained environmental professionals with the tools needed to succeed in the Canadian workplace.

Who is the Program For?
Program participants are internationally trained professionals who meet the following criteria:

Minimum of five years of experience working in an environmentally related field
-
Degree or a diploma in an environmentally related area (Foreign Credential Evaluation required)
-
Minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 7 in all four areas of assessment: reading, writing, speaking, and listening (proof of proficiency required)

Underemployed or unemployed in field of expertise
-
Eligible to work in Canada
-
Commitment to attend classes and complete course activities
-
Self-motivation and strong dedication to independent employment search
What Does the Training Curriculum Include?
The EIB Program is offered by regional partner Immigrant Serving Agencies. The curriculum is 180 hours of in-class training. Topics covered include:

This curriculum focuses on providing you with the above essential skills to succeed in the environmental sector. It does NOT provide technical or occupationally-specific training. These skills and areas of knowledge were identified based on input from over 60 environmental employers, employed internationally trained professionals in Canada, and employment counsellors.
Pilot Programs for the EIB Program were recently completed through the following partner organizations: Bredin Institute (Edmonton), Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (Calgary), and FutureWatch EDEP (Toronto).
Are there Industry Networking Opportunities?
Each Immigrant Serving Agency who delivers this program will provide an assortment of opportunities and activities to gain exposure to the environmental sector. This may be through a networking event, guest speaker lectures, mentorship connections, job shadowing, or work experience opportunities. This is determined by the Immigrant Serving Agency offering the EIB program.
Work experience opportunities such as informational interviews, volunteer placements, paid placements, or full-time employment must be found by you, the program participant. The Immigrant Serving Agency will be there to coach you through this process.
PLEASE NOTE: ECO Canada and the partner Immigrant Serving Agencies are NOT placement agencies. There is no guarantee that program participants will obtain a work placement. The purpose of the program is to gain the skills and knowledge required for you to seek employment-related opportunities in a supported, guided environment.
