About the Project
The goal of the Solid Waste Management labour market study is to define the scope of environmental employment that exists within the subsector of solid waste management and to identify the specific human resources issues and needs of employees and employers.
This study is being undertaken in response to requests from the Canadian solid waste management industry in these uncertain economic times. The industry is one of the largest employers of environmental professionals in the country and provides critical solid waste services to Canadians. With this study, ECO Canada is helping this evolving industry gain insight into:
-
Labour market trends and forecasts
-
Current and emerging skill requirements of solid waste occupations in light of advancing technology
-
Human resource practices and impact in a rapidly changing world economy
Project Details
The outcome will be an ELM (Environmental Labour Market) report on the Solid Waste Management that communicates a clear picture of labour market issues and equally offers stakeholders recommendations for identified challenges to enable them to better respond to changing labour market conditions.
Study duration: September 2008 - May 2010
This project is made possible by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC).
