When an Environmental Professional in Training (EPt) has met the necessary employment requirements, they may be eligible to upgrade to the full EP title.
The requirements and process are the same as for a new applicant for the EP title, but an EPt member will already have much of the needed information inputted into the system, making the process easier and faster.
For further details regarding the upgrade process, please see the EP Applicant Guide from the Support Documents page.
To upgrade from the EPt title to the EP title, a candidate must meet the following requirement:
-
Possess a minimum of 5 years of Canadian environmental work experience. Alternately, an applicant may submit 6 years of relevant environmental employment, of which at least one year must be Canadian employment and up to 5 years may be international employment.
The Education requirement is the same for the EP title as it is for the EPt title. If an EPt member wishes to upgrade to the EP title, they need not submit academic transcripts again.
1. Background Information
Update your employment, education, training and certifications information on the Certification Maintenance tab in your member account.
2. Click on the “Upgrade to EP” button
You can then select the EP title with up to five specializations.
3. Submit Peers
On the Background Information tab, submit a minimum of three peers that can validate your technical competencies. Peers will be contacted after confirmation that your Self-Assessment has been successful. Please note that each specialization requires three peers for validation, but that the same peer may validate any number of your chosen specializations.
4. Submit Payment
Pay your fees as soon as you are automatically directed to the payment page, as Certifications staff will not be able to process your account until payment is made. A complete fee schedule is available here.
5. Complete the Self Assessment
Using the NOS technical competency statements in the field of specialization(s) that you have chosen, you will be required to conduct a self-assessment of your technical competencies. The self-assessment must meet or exceed the minimum levels established through the NOS validation process.
Each EP/EPt field of specialization is comprised of a series of competency statements. For each statement, you will be asked to disclose how recently you last demonstrated the competency and to rate your level of proficiency with that competency. In order to proceed to your Peer Validation, you must receive a minimum passing score on the total competency assessment.
6. Peer Validation
If your Self Assessment was successful, your peers will be contacted to participate in the peer validation process. If your peers successfully validate your level of competence, your application will be forwarded to the Board for final ratification.
If you are successful in your application to upgrade to the Environmental Professional title, you will be mailed a certification package including a wall certificate, and your name will be added to the publicly available roster located at:
