Job Description

OREC is seeking a Project Engineer for overseeing the installation of solar photovoltaic rooftop and groundmount installations. An additional responsibility of the job will include supporting our Technician with monitoring and maintenance of our existing solar photovoltaic portfolio.

Responsibilities: Project Management – Projects Under Construction
• Evaluation of project design.
• Oversee General Contractor during the construction of new solar PV systems.
• Track schedule and project documentation.
• Liaise with Owner Engineer for milestone verifications.
• Participate in reviewing the commissioning process.
• Review designs and design change proposals in regard to systems being installed.
• Track payment schedule and manage change order process.
• Lead or participate in teams to resolve issues as they arise.
• Active participation and membership in solar industry certification working groups; maintain up-to-date knowledge of photovoltaic technology. Interface with certification bodies. Attend and present at seminars and conferences associated with relevant photovoltaic topics as a representative of the solar certification and testing laboratory.

Responsibilities: Monitoring and Maintenance – Existing Projects
• Remote monitoring of existing solar projects.
• Investigating and isolating failures that affect production or remote reporting, including analyzing monitoring data, calling/emailing tech support and on-site measurements and troubleshooting.
• Limited repair work for failures that affect production or remote reporting including working with suppliers and other sources to determine the best solution and coordinating repairs by third parties.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related.
• Experience with solar PV system designs.
• Expertise with project management
• Valid Driver’s License in Ontario and access to a vehicle for site visits
• A valid license with the Professional Engineers of Ontario is preferred but not obligatory.
• Post-secondary graduate
• 30 years of age or less as of start date (to be eligible for wage subsidy program)
• Never been a recipient of a federal government employment wage subsidy program


Job Timeframe and Location
The position is for a minimum of 12 months, starting April, 2017. Between January and April, the candidate will benefit from hands on, job-specific mentorship and training. There is flexiblilty in the training schedule.

Extension beyond the initial 12 month contract is anticipated.  Work will be performed from the office at 969 Wellington Street West, Ottawa. Out-of Office site visits will be performed as necessary.

Hours and Remuneration
Work hours are typically between 9am to 5pm although some work outside of normal hours is expected for project maintenance. The position is for 35 hours per week. The annual salary will be $40,000. Three weeks of paid vacation are available following a 3 month probation period.

Resources Provided
The employer will provide mentorship, work station, necessary software, tools and equipment necessary for project maintenance and safety equipment. Travel, telephone, and necessary accommodations will be eligible for reimbursement.
