Annual Membership Renewal is Required to Maintain Your Professional Designation

The hallmark of an Environmental Professional is the security others have in the knowledge that these EPs are not only impeccably well-suited to their fields, but that they constantly improve and maintain their knowledge and skills.

The environmental sector changes rapidly, and professionals need to stay up-to-date with advances, news, education, and skills that are always being developed and refined.

To maintain the utmost professionalism, all certified members are required to complete professional development activities and submit their membership fees on an annual basis.

Professional Development Activities

By regularly participating in activities such as continuing education, industry events, volunteer activities, and thought leadership, members keep their expertise and competencies at the high levels expected of a certified Environmental Professional.

The number of maintenance credits required annually for each membership level are:

EP-level members are subject to employment credit requirements to maintain their designation status. EP Auditor members are also subject to annual audit log requirements (minimum 5 credits/year) to maintain their Practicing status. Status changes are available for Non-practicising Emeritus

PD activity completion must be submitted in February each year, leading up to the annual renewal date of April 1st.

Annual Membership Fees

All members are required to pay the renewal fee by April 1 annually, which are as follows:

EP, EP(CEA) and EP(EMSLA) fee




Upgrade + Ethics Exam fee


Payment can be made via member account login on the ECO website. Reminder emails will be sent to members in February and March.

*If you qualify to upgrade from EPt to EP status, we recommend beginning this process in advance of the renewal period in order to avoid incurring additional fees

Outstanding Fees Policy

If payment is not received within 30 days of its due date, a penalty fee of $100.00 will be charged for EP members and EP Auditors while a $50.00 fee will be charged for EPt members. The member will no longer be considered in good standing and will be temporarily removed from the membership roster until payment is received. This status will be lifted, and the member’s name will be placed back on the roster once payment is received.

If it has been more than 90 days since ECO Canada has received any communication from a member, and said member still has outstanding fees, their account will be permanently removed, and they will have to either appeal and pay to reinstate their designation, or apply as a new applicant if the lapsed period exceeds 3 years.
