Climate Change & Energy Specialist

Reporting to the Environment & Sustainability Manager, the newly created position of Climate Change & Energy Specialist will focus on the planning & implementation of municipal climate change priorities. The primary responsibility is to organize the development of the Town’s greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, forecast and reduction targets program, and implement the GHG emission reduction strategies identified within the Town’s Environmental Master Plan. You will also assist in the development and implementation of municipal climate change mitigation or adaptation priorities identified through the Town’s current climate mitigation/adaptation work. Additionally, you will contribute to the development and implementation of municipal operational and institutional changes that will lead to operational savings and the reduction of GHG emissions.  This position will also participate in broader capacity building and knowledge-sharing activities and deliverables as required.

We are looking for someone with a post secondary degree in a related field such as Environmental Sciences, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Engineering or Energy Management/Planning, along with a minimum of 5 years related experience. The successful candidate will require strong knowledge and experience in the areas of GHG emissions reductions. Demonstrated proficiency in computer literacy, analytical skills and the ability to conduct rigorous research, manage data and present recommendations are strong requirements. Familiarity with GHG measurement reporting tools and frameworks is an asset.

This is a 24 month position with a 37.5 hour work week
