Reporting to the Manager, Environment, this position manages environmental projects as well as all final lot grading certificates for the City of Leduc.  This position will require approximately half of the year allocated to performing lot grading inspections in consultation with the Engineering and Planning & Development departments. The other half of the position will be allocated to delivering Council approved environmental projects such as the newly approved backyard hens and bees pilot project, which will require inspections, granting licences, facilitating neighbour communication and reporting on results. As part of the Environment group in the Engineering Department, the Inspector will also assist with implementation of other environmental initiatives identified in Council approved plans including the Environmental Plan, Weather & Climate Readiness Plan, Greenhouse Gas Reduction Action Plan, Water Conservation, Productivity and Efficiency Plan, Integrated Pest Management Plan and Salt Management Plan.

The position will also participate in the delivery of environmental and waste reduction events and other public communication activities which may require occasional evening and weekend work.
The ideal candidate will have an engineering technologist or environmental sciences degree, and a minimum of three years’ experience in municipal works, construction, environment or consulting work, public communications or another relevant field. A basic understanding of municipal permitting and lot grading requirements would be an asset. The candidate will possess exceptional communication, report writing skills, and excellent customer service and negotiation skills. Candidates should have an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office.  The successful candidate must be willing to provide a current Criminal Records Check and an acceptable Driving Abstract if selected for the position.
