Job Description

Our Opportunity

We are seeking a strong Intermediate or senior environmental scientist to work out of our office in Edmonton, AB, servicing clients in a large geographic area.  The primary duties of the position will be to support our presence in the area, particularly with Oil & Gas and Infrastructure clients.  The individual will be expected to provide capabilities including playing an active technical role in our projects in the region, playing a role in client communication, undertaking business development activities and working with a growing and diverse team of professionals. 


Duties / Responsibilities

• Lead fish capture and salvage field projects
• Lead or assist with fish habitat field assessments and mapping for various types of developments including but not limited to upstream and downstream oil and gas, infrastructure and mining
• Manage teams of environmental specialists responsible for conducting aquatic environmental surveys and assessments
• Experience in ecosystem mapping and/or vegetation preferable.
• Preparation or support in the preparation of erosion and sediment control (ESC) plans, Environmental Management and Protection (EMP and EPP) Plans
• Working knowledge of the provincial (Alberta) and federal aquatic legislation (Water Act, Environment enhancement and Protection Act, Wetland Policy, Public Lands Act, Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act).
• Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams in completion of projects
• Undertake necessary project scheduling and budget management
• Prepare project related reports including permit applications, report summaries and recommendations including culvert and bridge projects
• Communicate with clients, agencies, stakeholders and the public

Education and Experience

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biology or environmental sciences
• Minimum of 7-10 years consulting experience in a variety of areas, however a strong focus on aquatic systems and wetlands and is essential and registration or eligibility for registration as professional (ex. P.Biol. or R.P.Bio.)
• Minimum  of 5 years of experience managing or leading environmental trams for oil and gas and infrastructure projects
• Meet the qualifications as a Qualified Aquatic Environment Specialist (QAES) and completed work as a QAES for at least 5 years
• Evidence of strong writing skills such as completion of environmental assessment and permit application documentation is necessary
• Experience with wetland assessment an asset
• Training and experience operating ATVs or Argos is an asset
• Valid driver’s license and a clean abstract
• Excellent communication skills, strong field and office experience.
• Knowledge of the central and northern Alberta regions.
