Job Description

WHAT WILL OUR ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN DO?

The Environmental Technician will be based out of our Edmonton office and work with our team of professionals in AB and BC. You are a self-starter, enthusiastic, and a contributor in dynamic and interdisciplinary environments, working equally well to accomplish specific tasks either alone or in a team. You are known for your organization, attention to detail, can-do attitude, problem solving, and work ethic. You will assist in implementing our operational and consulting project requirements in both the field and the office. Examples of recurring tasks may include:

  • • Conducting environmental monitoring, including soil and water sampling.
  • Operating light field equipment such as power washers, soil samplers, and power hand tools.
  • Data entry of environmental monitoring results.
  • General labour such as shoveling, hammering stakes, or sweeping heavy equipment.
  • Working with project team members to ensure environmental compliance in all aspects of project delivery.
  • Supervision of contractors and operational site activities.
  • Completing safety documentation and actively supporting a safe work culture.
  • General office duties such as cleaning sampling and field equipment, vehicle cleaning / maintenance, and ordering field supplies.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE?

SYLVIS’s business is built on technical expertise, exceptional customer service, and a team-based approach to project delivery.  To excel in this position, you need to be prepared to deliver outstanding service by drawing on your previous experiences. You:

  • Have a technical diploma or a degree in environmental studies, horticulture, biology, forestry, mining, or engineering.
  • Have 1-3 years of experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Have an ability and interest to work in the field for an extended time, including working overtime as required.
  • Are physically fit and able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Work well as part of a team and independently.
  • Have a valid driver’s license.
  • Are fluent in English and have excellent communication skills.
  • Previous work experience in environmental monitoring or consulting is an asset.
  • Experience working with organic residuals such as manure, biosolids, or compost is an asset.
