Job Description

WHAT WILL OUR HEALTH & SAFETY PROJECT COORDINATOR DO?

Based in our New Westminster BC office, the Health & Safety Project Coordinator position provides a unique opportunity to apply your safety expertise while also contributing to operational and consulting projects. You will balance your time between coordinating and implementing all aspects of SYLVIS’s rigorous safety program and ensuring the smooth execution of projects related to the beneficial use of residuals. You will be responsible for all aspects of project coordination within both realms of responsibility and will participate directly in field activities. You are someone with a diverse skill set and are extremely well organized. 

Your health and safety responsibilities include:

  • Implementation of SYLVIS’s corporate and site-specific health and safety programs, policies and procedures.
  • Coordination of the Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and presentations to management.
  • Ensuring adherence to Provincial and Federal Safety legislations.
  • Investigating and reporting on workplace near misses and incidents.
  • Ensuring preventative and corrective actions are identified and are addressed promptly
  • Undertaking regular safety audits as per the established protocols and schedules.
  • Pro-actively driving continuous improvements to the health and safety programs.

Your project coordinator responsibilities include:

  • Project planning and implementation at one or more operational reclamation or residuals recycling projects in British Columbia.
  • Coordinating and participating in field activities including environmental sample collection, supervision of heavy equipment operations, and supervision of external contractors.
  • Data tracking and report preparation.
  • Regular liaison with client representatives.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE?

SYLVIS’s business is built on technical expertise, exceptional customer service, and a team-based approach to project delivery. To excel in this position, you need to be prepared to deliver outstanding service by drawing on your previous experiences. You have:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience coordinating health and safety programs; a post secondary occupational health and safety certificate or degree is an asset.
  • A good understanding of health and safety regulations in BC and Alberta.
  • Experience in COR internal / external auditing.
  • 1-2 years of experience in environmental monitoring, data management, supervision of heavy equipment contractors, and project coordination.
  • Experience in client liaison and report preparation.
  • An advanced technical diploma or undergraduate degree in an environmental discipline is an asset.
