Maskwa Environmental Consulting Ltd (Maskwa) is a professional consulting firm based in Calgary, Alberta. We are searching for Intermediate Environmental Specialist to join our growing team.

We specialize in planning, permitting, strategy development and implementation, environmental services and GIS services. We provide senior level expertise to help our clients navigate through the complex maze of environmental regulations and regulatory compliance required for projects across the energy sector. Our clients are diverse: wind energy, solar energy, electrical transmission and distribution, municipalities, oil and gas, and forestry.

We are looking for an Intermediate Environmental Specialist that ideally can lend expertise and experience in field assessments and office technical reporting for multiple biophysical disciplines, inclusive of soils, vegetation, watercourses, wetlands, and wildlife. We realize this is a big ask, but if you are competent in these disciplines, we want to hear from you.

You will lead/assist in field survey assessments for a variety of energy sector projects throughout Alberta, and possibly in other provinces.

You will use your strong working familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting for energy sector projects that Maskwa supports.

You will work collaboratively with Maskwa’s team of subject matter experts from our GIS, stakeholder engagement, siting, and regulatory team on a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients.

The ideal candidate will have a great attitude, a willingness to grow as a professional, and can jump right in to contribute to our continued growth.

• A professional designation recognized in Alberta (e.g., P. Biol, RPF, P.Ag., etc.) or equivalent from other jurisdictions.
• College diploma or university degree in an environmental focused program such as Environmental Sciences, Botany, Biology, or other applicable discipline.
• As this is considered an intermediate role, we are only interested in candidates with five or more years of directly experience.
• A strong working knowledge of pertinent environmental based federal and provincial regulatory acts and regulations.
• Capable of working in the field for extended periods in inclement weather and in remote areas.
• Able to lift/carry up to 20 pounds of field gear.
• Class 5 driver’s licence is required.
• An unwavering commitment to safety and familiarity with safety requirements in the field and in the office.
• Open-minded approach to participating in different types of projects, tasks and responsibilities associated with a small and growing business.

Core responsibilities

• Lead or assist in the delivery of biophysical (soils, vegetation, wetlands wildlife) survey programs and assessment programs in support of regulatory applications for energy sector projects.
• Act in a Crew Lead capacity for various biophysical assessments
• Perform environmental monitoring for energy sector construction projects.
• Contribute/lead technical writing of environmental risk assessments, environmental evaluations, pre- and post-construction monitoring reports, wetland reporting, and others as assigned for municipal, provincial, and federally-regulated projects.
• Mentor junior staff based on your experience and skillset.
• Contribute to general business development efforts.
• Provide support for proposals and bids as requested.
• Contribute/collaborate generally to Maskwa projects and team members as required.
• Actively participate in Maskwa team meetings.
• Support and contribute to the development of both Maskwa and client policies and procedures.
• Other duties as required.
