MSC is looking for a Program Director to lead MSC in Canada

Are you passionate about our oceans?  Do you believe that future generations should benefit from sustainably caught seafood?  If so, you could be the perfect fit for the Marine Stewardship Council. We’re looking for a Program Director who can lead on delivering the MSC’s over-arching aims and objectives in Canada.   You’ll be responsible for outreach to the fishery, supply chain and market sectors, promoting the MSC ecolabel and increasing support for the program across a broad range of interest groups, including fisheries, government representatives, retailers and partners in the NGO community. 

You will be leading three different disciplines: fisheries, commercial (processing/sales), and marketing /communications; you must have expertise in one of them and, a proven track record managing multi-disciplinary teams.  You will also be part of the senior management team for the Americas region, helping to set strategy and develop tactics; you must be able to understand the difference between the two.

You:
• Are a good leader with strong management skills;
• Are a self-motivated, team player who takes the time to understand what it takes to get the job done;
• Are an experienced manager and should have a minimum of 7 years management experience; seafood industry experience would be a bonus;
• Are likely to be fluent in English; French language skills would be an advantage;
• Are able to relate to people at different levels and across different groups; this skill is essential to your success;
• Are a good listener, and open to new ideas and approaches to advancing our mission and reach;
• Will have a sense of humour, a joy for doing good work, pride in working with a great team, and patience when necessary.

The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations.  Through our internationally-recognised certification and ecolabeling programme well-managed sustainable fisheries are recognised and rewarded in the market place, through the leadership of our partners.  Critically, other fisheries are incentivised to improve their performance to meet the growing demand for certified sustainable and traceable seafood choice.   Over 400 fisheries around the world, representing 16% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC programme and over 1200 documented improvements to the way our oceans are being fished have been recorded.  MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.
