Program Manager, Corporate Sustainability

Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, Corporate Sustainability, this position is responsible for supporting the integration, delivery and management of FortisBC’s Sustainability Program  management of FBC’s Sustainability roadmap, inclusive of strategy development, program implementation and integration, and metric compilation.

Key Accountabilities 

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with department managers to explore opportunities to further embed sustainability into business practices and initiatives. Foster key relationships across the organization and geographic regions to effect change and influence process innovation in support of developing a long-term sustainability roadmap in alignment with the strategic business plan.

Identify and influence sustainability aspects of business operations and stakeholder relations. Ensure alignment of departmental metrics with sustainability reporting and performance indicators.

Support the development of a proactive sustainability strategy for the long-term alignment of the organization’s sustainability goals with the company’s vision, values and business priorities.

Oversee the internal system to effectively capture all relevant sustainability data to ensure accurate and concise reporting. Effectively manage systems to capture all relevant sustainability data and generate reports for both internal and external stakeholders.

Work with FortisBC communications teams to support the development, delivery and monitoring of internal, external and stakeholder communication and engagement plans. Support the delivery and adjustment of plans in effort of embedding sustainability into day-to-day operations.

Develop reporting templates to support both internal and external sustainability reporting as well as responding to disclosure requests.

Research FortisBC’s positioning regarding their Sustainability Program while benchmarking against similar organizations and advise/recommend on sustainability performance indicators in consultation with the business. Provide departmental support across the organization to integrate sustainability initiatives into business plans and budgets once targets have been established.

Stay current on sustainability and environmental regulations and assist with the development and/or updating corporate sustainability and environmental policies and standards to ensure compliance.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce or Environment with a focus on corporate social responsibility, environmental sciences or another sustainability related discipline, plus a minimum of four (4) years of related experience. Experience in environmental or sustainability and coordination and implementation of sustainability initiatives is preferred.

Technical Competencies

  • Demonstrated knowledge and interest of corporate responsibility and sustainability trends and issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sustainability standards, reporting protocols (ex. GHG Protocol, GRI, etc.) and processes (ex. Carbon footprint, life-cycle analysis, energy management, carbon neutrality, etc.)
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of environmental issues, corporate sustainability best practices, carbon footprint data, energy efficiently, sustainable development and renewable energy.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task with strong experience in project management, analysis and performance reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry projects and initiatives to completion while working successfully with people at many organizational levels both in a team environment and independently.
  • Proven experience of successfully developing, implementing and evaluating communication plans.
  • Experience with data management capture/reporting systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal, written, presentation) skills.
  • Ability to research, analyse and reason logically and effectively within tight and conflicting timeframes.
  • Change management experience in multi-site role.
  • Computer skills including  Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project/SharePoint/Access Database.
