Job Description

We are currently seeking a motivated self-starter with a passion for the environment and sustainability to join our team and grow within the organization. We have a small team of like-minded individuals, where collaboration and idea sharing are strongly encouraged. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge (e.g. technician/trades training), an interest in renewables, and a willingness to be mentored on the business and project management side.

This position will be best suited to someone with a desire and willingness to learn, mechanically inclined and not afraid to get their hands dirty, with a go-getter personality and attitude to figure things out. Time will be split between operating and maintaining our Vancouver Island Biogas Utilization Centre.


Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include, but are limited to:

  • Leadership in maintenance and operation of the facility
  • Conduct surveillance of operating equipment and critical parameters, while keeping accurate daily operations logs
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance and perform some maintenance and preventative inspections
  • Identify improvement opportunities and work with others to implement changes
  • Support and comply with the policies and programs of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System
  • Troubleshoot complex problems analytically to reach solutions
  • Act as a lead in the technical/functional area, coordinating the work of other service providers
  • Lead in relationships by attending regular meetings with facility partners
  • Plan and acquire required hardware, software and programming for new remote operations
  • Monitor operation and generation of clean energy facility

  • Proficient computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to communicate in a professional positive manner
  • Technical capacity to understand mechanical, electrical, control and how they interface in energy production
  • Previous experience in a technical trade, such as: construction, farming, electrical, HVAC, or mechanical will be considered an asset
  • Understanding of spreadsheets, cashflow performance, budgeting or financials will be considered an asset
  • Second language will be considered an asset
  • Must qualify for ECO Canada’s wage funding programs (www.eco.ca/internship/internquiz)
  • Currently unemployed or underemployed
  • Able to work in a full-time, permanent position withing 30 days from application
  • Intend to lead an environmental career in STEM or natural resources
  • Graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution with a 2-year diploma or 4-year degree
  • 30 years of age or younger
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status

Working Environment

  • Must be physically fit and able to work with some lifting and strength in your position
  • This is a safety sensitive position and there is no smoking permitted
  • Must be available for on-call emergency overtime when the need arises by responding to calls before and after standard scheduled hours of work
