Job Description

Reporting to the VP of Marketing & Customer Engagement, you will work closely with key stakeholders to implement learning solutions and training programs that contribute to ECO’s business goals and drive participation. Liaising with government funders you will also lead the planning and implementation of skill development projects that support the growth of Canada’s skills-based economy and a rapidly growing environmental workforce. Leadership and strategic growth are also part of your role as you will also be managing a team of two to three resources and a network of external vendors.

Your responsibilities will include:

Project Management

  • Develop and execute a project plan to support the fulfilment objectives of an Adult Learning, Literacy and Essential Skills project in partnership with the Federal Government.
  • Manage a project budget that aligns to overarching departmental revenue and participant targets.
  • Lead the program development efforts to meet the project objectives and ensure the approach is sound.
  • Conduct secondary research that tracks the evolution of similar programs used by competitors, other sectors or countries.
  • Develop a performance framework that links essential skills training to core competencies and employability

Program Development Activities

  • Participate in the development of a sustainable strategy for the program that targets environmental professionals and various demographic segments including Indigenous groups.
  • Coordinate and conduct external research to determine public demand for various training opportunities.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and project deliverables to agreed upon timelines and scope.
  • Coordinate training launch and delivery to various participants across Canada, leveraging ECO’s extensive network of customers and contacts.
  • Develop strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders such as Government contacts, trainers, program consultants and environmental employers.
  • Oversee the event strategy which includes webinar, networking events and conference presence.
  • Conduct direct prospecting activities to generate new industry connections and potential partnerships for program growth objectives.


  • Maintain dashboard of program success metrics and results within appropriate reporting platforms.
  • Contribute information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews, determine and implementing continuous improvement activities.
  • Participate in forecasting activities, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating correction actions.
  • Produce quarterly and final project reports as required by funders.

People Management

  • Oversee the Training Coordinator, Events Coordinator, and other support staff to achieve targets and deliver on annual plans.
  • Proven ability to engage and motivate staff members while providing a collaborative work environment.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals and semi-annual performance checks.
  • Coach team in decision making, conflict resolution, prioritization, leadership, and project ownership.

The incumbent should have demonstrable experience in the following areas:

  • Post-secondary education in the field of business, economics, human services or related discipline
  • At least 5 years’ experience in curriculum development, workshop facilitation and developing training programs
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience managing government-funded contracts
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management abilities
  • Must be detail-oriented with a solution-driven mindset
  • Superior relationship building and communication skills
  • Expertise in MS Office, learning management platforms (Absorb), CRM platforms and other online systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in an outcomes-based environment
  • Ability to manage and interpret budgets
  • Excellent interpersonal, team building, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly in a collaborative work environment
  • Experience in working with underrepresented groups such as Indigenous communities and newcomers to Canada preferred
  • Knowledge of the environmental sector an asset
