Eligibility Requirements

In order to gain pre-approval status for this employment program, you must meet ALL below requirements:

Program Candidates

  • Currently unemployed or underemployed
  • Able to work in a full-time, permanent position within 30 days from application
  • Intend to lead an environmental career in STEM or natural resources
  • Have not previously participated in a federal youth employment program
  • Not a family member of the employer organization’s senior leaders
  • 30 years of age or younger, Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status
  • Not currently a paid employee at the employer organization

Host Employers

  • Full-time, permanent position for aged 30 or under candidate
  • Environmentally-related position in STEM or Natural Resources
  • Hiring a new employee – not an existing full-time employee
  • Must be Canadian owned, Canadian subsidiary, Municipal or Provincial Government Department
  • Candidate must be 30 years of age or younger and is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or has refugee status

Clean Energy for Northern, Rural and Remote Communities

For those employers and candidates who fit the additional criteria, you may qualify for the full $30,000 per placement. Key considerations:

  • Working in a community with a population of fewer than 5,000
  • Not connected to the North American piped natural gas network and/or the North America electrical grid
  • A permanent or long-term settlement with at least 10 dwellings
  • The work exists in Northern communities in the Yukon, North West Territories or Nunavut
  • Training of the candidate on essential skills is required

Placements typically last 8-12 months and are intended to lead to permanent employment.

To participate, your candidate start date must be within 30 days of being approved.
